This scarf is handwoven in Laos, using the traditional weaving method of Ikat. Ikat is a long-process production. The yarns are first set on the frame where the weaver binds parts of yarns based on the ikat design. The bound yarns are dip-dyed, and when the ties are removed after, the bound parts, having resisted the colours coming in, form the pattern. Ikat requires a skilful weaver to align the patterns correctly.
